All-New 7-Seater Hyundai SUV In The Works - To Rival Mahindra XUV700

Hyundai is all set to introduce the facelifted version of the Alcazar SUV on September 9, 2024. Positioned above the Creta, the new Alcazar is currently the brand's only 7-seater offering in the country. What's interesting is that Hyundai is also developing an all-new 3-row SUV, which will be positioned against the likes of the Mahindra XUV700 and the Tata Safari.

A new media report claims that Hyundai India is developing 3 new SUVs, which will be launched in the country in the next 2 years. In the first quarter of 2025, Hyundai will introduce its first locally developed Creta EV in the country. Adding to it, the Korean brand is preparing a new sub-4 meter SUV to rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Renault Kiger and Tata Nexon. This model will be based on the i20 platform and is expected to share the styling cues from the Hyundai Bayon on sale in global markets.

Details about the 7-seater Hyundai SUV are yet to be revealed, but it is expected to sit above the Alcazar. It is expected to be based on the Hyundai's K2 platform, which will be modified to accommodate a bigger SUV. The new SUV could be bigger in size than the Alcazar and will serve as the brand's flagship ICE model.

The new Bayon based crossover and the 7-seater SUV are expected to add around 1.2 lakh units a year to Hyundai's volumes. Hyundai sold 6.15 lakh cars in India, of which 63% were SUVs last financial year. Adding to it, the company exported 1.63 lakh vehicles last fiscal.

The new Hyundai 7-seater SUV is expected to be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. It could receive a 2.0-litre turbo diesel and a 2.0-litre petrol engines, which are offered with the Tucson. Both manual and automatic transmission options are likely on offer.
