BMW Cars is all set to introduce the new second-gen X2 globally. The SUV coupe will get a new design, overhauled interiors, and updated powertrain choices. Now, ahead of its debut, the German automaker has revealed new teasers of the 2024 BMW X2. We take a closer look.
As seen in the teaser video, the new X2 will have a completely new design. The raised hatchback silhouette of the current model will be replaced with an SUV coupe silhouette, similar to the BMW X4 and BMW X6. The front end will get BMW’s now signature massive kidney grilles along with integrated surround lighting and unique LED signatures.
Moving to the side, the new X2 will have a sharply raked roofline for the coupe profile and new alloy wheels. At the rear, it will likely feature new LED taillights connected by a lightbar.
Inside, the interior of the X2 will be identical to the current X1. It will get BMW’s new curved display layout with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch infotainment system. Other key features the X2 will get include connected car tech, keyless entry and go, multi-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and more. Due to its coupe-like silhouette, the X2 will have slightly decreased headroom and boot space compared to the X1.
BMW will likely offer the X2 with a range of ICE and strong-hybrid powertrain choices. While details are yet to be confirmed, peak power will range from 170 bhp - 326 bhp, depending on the powertrain. The automaker has also confirmed that it will offer a pure-electric version of the SUV, likely to be called the iX2. It will use a 66.4 kWh battery pack that powers a dual-motor setup, making a peak power output of 313 bhp. Range is around 440 km while the battery supports 130 kW DC fast charging.
BMW will also offer a performance-oriented X2 M35i, distinguished by its quad exhausts. The four-pot turbo-petrol motor makes around 300 bhp of peak power. All of the X2’s variants will likely use an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The automaker has confirmed that the new X2 will be fully revealed in the coming weeks, with the global launch set around the end of 2023. While BMW hasn’t said if the X2 is coming to India as of now, expect it to arrive sometime next year as its sibling, the X1, is quite popular here. In terms of pricing, the X2 will likely command a slight premium over the X1, which is priced around Rs 45.90 lakh (ex-showroom) - Rs 51.60 lakh (ex-showroom).
