BMW X1 LWB gets a 2,800mm wheelbase with improved cabin space. It will come with a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine option. The luxury SUV will feature premium equipment from the iX1 LWB.
BMW is preparing to introduce the X1 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in India, adding more space and premium features to its popular compact luxury SUV. The new model follows the launch success of the iX1 LWB and will bring a longer body, improved rear seat comfort and a new petrol engine option.
The BMW X1 LWB is expected to arrive in India on August 21, 2026 and will be locally assembled, which could help the company offer it at a more competitive price compared to fully imported models.
The biggest highlight of the new BMW X1 LWB is its extended wheelbase. While the standard X1 comes with a 2,692mm wheelbase, the long-wheelbase version gets a 2,800mm wheelbase, making it around 108mm longer.
The additional length is expected to benefit rear-seat passengers with improved legroom and a more comfortable seating experience. Apart from the wheelbase increase, the overall design and dimensions are expected to remain similar to the standard version.
BMW is targeting customers who want the practicality of a larger SUV while maintaining the compact size and easy driving experience of the X1.

The BMW X1 LWB is expected to carry forward several premium features from the electric iX1 LWB. The SUV could come equipped with features such as vegan leather upholstery, a fixed panoramic glass roof, wireless charging and a Harman Kardon premium sound system.
Other expected features include BMW’s latest infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, connected car technology and multiple safety features.
With the longer wheelbase, the rear section of the cabin is expected to become the biggest improvement, making it more suitable for owners who frequently travel with rear passengers.
Under the hood, the BMW X1 LWB is expected to receive a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This engine is likely to produce around 154 bhp and 230 Nm of torque and will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The petrol engine is expected to be a slightly detuned version of the unit available with the Mini Countryman C. The diesel engine option is likely to continue unchanged from the current BMW X1 lineup.
Unlike the standard imported version, the BMW X1 LWB is expected to be assembled locally in India. Local production could help BMW reduce costs and offer the SUV at a more attractive price point. This will also allow the company to strengthen its position in the premium compact SUV segment.
Once launched, the BMW X1 LWB will continue to compete with luxury compact SUVs such as the Mercedes-Benz GLA and Volvo XC40.
