All-electric BMW iX1 revealed alongside the Next-Generation BMW X1; Features major design overhaul, liberating more space on the inside; Comes kitted with the latest iDrive 8 system and a single piece curved display unit
BMW has globally unveiled the third-generation of the X1 SUV. Alongside the ICE product, the company also launched the All-New iX1 electric SUV. Both models feature a refreshed exterior design along with new interior layout. The SUVs are rumoured to offer the most spacious cabin at this price point.

The All-New BMW X1 exhibits a robust road presence with its upright stance and the signature BMW SUV styling. Its front facia features slim LED headlamps and the classic kidney grille. The lower half of the bumper is characterised by a large air intake flanked by defining chrome strips on both sides. Adaptive LED headlights along with Matrix high beam and pulsating turn indicators are an optional extra. The side profile of the four-wheeler lends an imposing stance with almost square wheel arches and a long sloping roofline. Towards the rear, the slim LED tail lamps extend all the way to the sides and a subtle roof spoiler along with horizontal creases speaks of modern and mature styling. The new light 17-inch alloy wheels are available as standard, while the xLine and M Sport come equipped with 18-inch wheels with the option of 19-inch as well. A first for the X1, BMW is offering options for 20-inch wheels in higher trims. The vehicle can be purchased in 2 solid and 10 metallic colour options.
The iX1’s exterior design is similar to the X1 but is differentiated by a few blue inserts around the brand logo and the i badging.

Both SUVs feature an identical interior layout, characterised by the new single-piece curved display unit, which houses a 10.7-inch infotainment display and an 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. The driver seat is now placed on higher racks providing a commanding view of the road ahead and comes with the option for Sensatec perforated and Vernasca leather upholstery. Sports seats are part of optional equipment along with the massage function. The new single-piece wide AC vent and the floating front centre armrest make up the centre console. Their rear seats now offer more comfort with 40:20:40 split functionality.
The feature list on the new X1 and the iX1 include BMW’s latest iDrive 8 operating system, two-zone automatic climate control, auto headlamps, ADAS, and a sports leather steering wheel. The vehicles also come with optional packages that offer ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof and Harman Kardon Sound System.

The New BMW X1 is offered in a wide variety of powertrain options. These include two petrol and two diesel engine offerings with a 48V mild-hybrid system as standard. The top-of-the-line diesel mill churns out 208 bhp and 400 Nm of peak torque while the top-spec petrol unit produces 215 bhp and 360 Nm of peak torque. All the powertrains come mated to a 7-speed DCT transmission.

On the other hand, the iX1 comes powered by two integrated electric motors producing a combined power output of 308 bhp and 494 Nm of torque. It is said to complete the 0 to 100 kmph sprint in just 5.7 seconds with the help of an electric all-wheel-drive system to ensure maximum traction on the tarmac. The electric SUV uses 5th Gen BMW eDrive technology to efficiently charge the high voltage battery placed flat in the SUV's underbody. The carmaker claims a range of 438 kms on a single charge.

BMW has planned to launch the X1 and the iX1 officially towards the end of 2022 with an India launch expected by mid-2023. Once introduced, the BMW X1 will rival the likes of the Mercedes Benz GLA, Audi Q3 and the Volvo XC40 in its segment.
