BMW India recently announced that it will be hiking the price of its X1 diesel variant. As a result, the X1 sDrive 18d M Sport is now priced at Rs 50.90 lakh (ex-showroom) which is an increase of Rs 3 lakh. However, price for the petrol sDrive 18i xLine trim stays the same.
The German automaker also stated that customers who had booked the X1 with the introductory price should be expecting to receive their vehicle delivery from this month. After the price hike, BMW’s entry-level SUV becomes more expensive than its only diesel rival, the Mercedes-Benz GLA 220d, which is priced at Rs 50.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
BMW launched the All-New X1 earlier this year at the brand’s Joytown festival. The third-generation SUV is larger than before and features a new exterior design. Up front, it offers slimmer headlights and L-shaped DRLs that flank the larger kidney grille while the angular bumper receives black inserts. Move to the side and you will notice the flush-fitting door handles, mildly flared wheel arches, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Towards the rear, the four-wheeler provides sculpted tailgate and L-shaped wraparound LED tail lights.
Inside, the X1’s dashboard is dominated by BMW’s new curved display unit that houses a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The SUV comes loaded with equipment like a panoramic sunroof, multi-zone climate control, connected car tech, ambient lighting, wireless charging, keyless entry & go, powered & ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, and more.
The vehicle is available with both petrol and diesel powertrain options. The former is a 1.5-litre, three-pot gasoline unit that makes 136 bhp with 230 Nm of peak torque. While the oil burner in this case happens to be a 2-litre, four-cylinder engine capable of delivering a maximum power output of 150 bhp and 360 Nm torque. Transmission options here include a 7-speed DCT automatic and a 7-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Prices for the BMW X1 range from Rs 45.90 lakh (ex-showroom) for the sDrive 18i xLine petrol to Rs 50.90 lakh for the sDrive 18d M Sport. In India, it competes against the likes of the Mini Countryman, Audi Q3, Volvo XC40, and the Mercedes-Benz GLA.
