BMW i5 LWB launched at Rs 79.60 lakh Gets 81.6kWh battery with 669km claimed range All 99 First Edition units sold out before launch
BMW India has launched the new BMW i5 Long Wheelbase in India at an introductory price of Rs 79.60 lakh (ex-showroom). It is the first locally produced electric sedan from BMW India and is aimed at buyers looking for a combination of long-range electric driving and rear-seat comfort.
The new BMW i5 LWB is manufactured at the BMW Group Plant Chennai, with deliveries starting immediately. Bookings are now open through BMW dealerships across India and the company's official website.
Interestingly, all 99 units of the limited-run BMW i5 LWB First Edition were sold out before the official launch. The First Edition is priced at the same Rs 79.60 lakh as the standard variant.

The BMW i5 eDrive35L comes with an 81.6kWh battery pack and has a claimed range of up to 669km on the MIDC cycle. Power comes from a single electric motor producing 268hp and 410Nm of torque.
The electric sedan can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 6.7 seconds, while its top speed is rated at 195kmph. It also gets a single-speed transmission and BMW's eDrive technology.
For charging, the i5 LWB supports DC fast charging at up to 160kW. BMW claims that the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in around 33 minutes. Buyers also get a complimentary BMW Wallbox charger with installation, supporting charging at up to 11kW.
The biggest highlight of the BMW i5 LWB is its size. It measures 5,175mm in length, 2,156mm in width and 1,520mm in height, while the wheelbase stands at 3,105mm.
This makes it the largest car in its segment, with BMW focusing heavily on rear-seat space and comfort. The sedan gets adaptive rear-axle air suspension and enhanced ground clearance, which are designed to improve ride quality on Indian roads.
The rear seats get enhanced cushioning and support, while four-zone climate control adds to the comfort. This makes the i5 LWB suitable for both self-driven and chauffeur-driven use.
Inside, the BMW i5 LWB gets a fully vegan interior with Veganza perforated upholstery. The cabin features a BMW Curved Display with a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen.
Other highlights include the illuminated BMW Interaction Bar, CraftedClarity crystal glass elements, front seat ventilation and a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof.
The sedan also comes with a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging and multiple USB-C ports.
To mark the India launch, BMW offered the i5 LWB First Edition in a limited run of just 99 units. All of them were sold before the official launch, showing strong initial interest in the new electric sedan.
The First Edition gets exclusive touches such as a Carbon Black Metallic exterior with Titanium Bronze accents, special interior trim, Silver Bronze detailing and a dedicated rear-seat entertainment package with a tablet and holder.
The BMW i5 eDrive35L M Sport is priced at Rs 79.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The First Edition was also priced at Rs 79.60 lakh, despite its additional exclusive equipment and limited availability.
