New BMW iX4 spotted testing in Germany. Electric coupe SUV could debut later this year. Expected to share battery and tech with the iX3.
BMW is working on a new electric coupe SUV, and the upcoming iX4 has now been spotted testing in Germany. The new model is expected to make its global debut later this year and will sit alongside the BMW iX3 in the brand’s growing electric SUV range. The iX4 will be the first fully electric version of BMW’s coupe SUV and could also preview the next-generation X4.
The latest spy shots show that the iX4 will share several design elements with the iX3. However, the biggest difference will be its sharply sloping roofline, giving the electric SUV a more sporty profile. The iX4 is expected to follow BMW’s Neue Klasse design language. At the front, it could get a black panel housing the LED headlamps, along with diagonal daytime running lights.
The front bumper appears similar to the one seen on the iX3, while the rear features wide LED tail-lamps. BMW is also likely to give the iX4 different alloy wheels and a new boot lid spoiler to distinguish it from the iX3.

The cabin of the BMW iX4 is expected to share its basic layout with the iX3. This could include a 17.9-inch rhomboidal infotainment touchscreen, a four-spoke steering wheel and BMW’s pillar-to-pillar Panoramic Vision display. The coupe SUV could also get unique interior colour combinations and upholstery options to give it a more distinctive character.
Under the skin, the BMW iX4 is expected to use the same 800V architecture and 108.7kWh battery pack as the iX3. The iX3 uses a dual-motor setup producing 469hp and 645Nm. It offers a claimed WLTP range of up to 805km and supports DC fast charging at up to 400kW. BMW says the iX3 can charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 21 minutes. The iX4 is expected to have similar performance and charging figures, although BMW is yet to reveal its final specifications.
The upcoming BMW iX4 will essentially bring a coupe-SUV design to the technology and platform used by the new iX3. With its sloping roofline and Neue Klasse styling, it is expected to offer a sportier alternative within BMW’s electric SUV range. BMW could reveal more details about the iX4 closer to its expected debut later this year.
