Citroen Basalt to launch on August 7 along with Tata Curvv Both coupe SUVs will fall in the range of Rs 10-20 lakh Tata Curvv will come with multiple powertrains
The Indian auto market is going to witness two coupe SUVs launching on the same day for the first time. One of these is Curvv, belonging to the house of Tata while the second one is the Basalt coupe SUV from Citroen. Both models will mark a significant impact in the industry due to their attractive body styling, variety of tech features, and performance. The interesting part is both models will mark their official entry and price announcement on the same day - August 7.
The Basalt Coupe SUV will be the fourth model from the brand’s C-cubed program. It is like an alternative to the C3 Aircross in a coupe-styled avatar. However, the Basalt will boast some distinctive exterior design elements and a range of tech features that C3 Aircross misses out on.
Citroen will use two petrol engines for the Basalt Coupe SUV. Its 1.2-litre petrol engine can produce 81 bhp and 115 Nm, paired to a 5-speed manual while its 1.2-litre turbo-petrol delivers 108 bhp and 190 Nm, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. If paired to a 6-speed torque converter, the turbo petrol can also deliver 108 bhp and 205 Nm. As for fuel efficiency, the Basalt can offer a claimed mileage of 18 kmpl for naturally aspirated petrol, 19.5 kmpl for turbo-petrol manual and 18.7 kmpl for turbo-petrol. It is likely to be priced between Rs 11-15 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Curvv SUV Coupe will come in two versions - ICE and Electric. While the ICE-powered Curvv will be based on the all-new ATLAS platform, the EV variant will be underpinned by the brand’s Gen 2 Acti. ev architecture. The SUV coupe will be powered by multiple powertrain choices including two petrol, one diesel engine, and two battery pack choices. The Curvv ICE will include a 1.2-litre turbo petrol, Nexon's sourced 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel. The electric variant will be powered by two battery packs; 40kWh and 55 kWh, offering a maximum range of 600 km. Price-wise, it could hover between Rs 10.50 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
