Honda City facelift and City e:HEV arriving on May 22, 2026 To get a 1.5L NA petrol engine with MT and CVT Both will get styling tweaks and an upgraded interior
Honda Cars India has officially confirmed a major double-launch event for May 22, 2026. The Japanese automaker will give the second facelift for the 5th-gen Honda City, alongside its new flagship premium SUV, the Honda ZR-V. The big update is that Honda will also introduce the City hybrid facelift on the same day.
The second facelift to City nameplate is a strategic move to keep the iconic sedan fresh as it faces stiff competition from the Hyundai Verna, VW Virtus and Skoda Slavia. For people not in the know, Honda is also preparing the next-gen City sedan, which is expected to launch sometime in 2028.
While the silhouette remains the same, the 2026 update will bring several “customer-centric” feature additions and subtle design tweaks:
Design Changes: it is expected to get a sharper, flatter front grille with horizontal slats, and an updated front and rear bumpers along with a newly designed 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.
Tech Upgrades: Inside the cabin, the Honda City is likely to receive a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 360-degree surround view camera. The top-spec model is likely to get ventilated front seats and an electrically-adjustable driver’s seat.
Safety Tech: the sedan will get an updated Honda Sensing (Level 2 ADAS), which will have smoother adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assistance for the Indian traffic conditions.
The new City and City hybrid won’t receive any mechanical changes. It will continue to be offered with the tried & tested 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine producing 121 hp and 145 Nm of torque, paired to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic.
The hybrid version continue to feature a 1.5L i-MMD hybrid (e:HEV) tech offering a combined power and torque output of 126 hp and 253 Nm, respectively, and is paired with an e-CVT. It will continue to be the most fuel-efficient sedan in India, a mileage of over 26+ kmpl.
