Kia Motors has just registered 8 new electric vehicle trademarks in India ahead of its 12 October EV Day. The range starts from EV1, going up to the EV9, with the latter being the automaker’s flagship model and already slated to launch sometime in 2024. While there are few details about the others, trademarking the names means that Kia may be launching its entire born EV lineup in India in the future.
The naming strategy of the upcoming Kia electric models gives an idea of the size and positioning of each model in the brand’s lineup. The Kia EV1 will be the entry-level model while the Kia EV9 already serves as the brand’s global flagship. Interestingly, the trademarking of names arrives just before Kia’s EV day on October 12. It is expected that the brand will also reveal more details about the models on this day.
Kia already offers the EV6 in India and recently revealed the production-ready EV5 a few months ago. The new electric SUV is expected to go on sale in China first, but will also be launched in select global markets later.
The automaker is currently testing an electric compact SUV, similar in size to the Seltos, that has been spotted abroad. Likely to be called the EV4, the brand will likely reveal more details about this model at the upcoming Kia EV day. A new teaser for the upcoming event also reveals the silhouette of a coupe crossover with unique LED lighting elements.
However, Kia is yet to reveal any details or teasers about the remaining four models. It is also not known currently which of these models the automaker will bring to the Indian market.
