Kia Sorento body-shell spotted in India Launch expected by March 2027 To get a strong hybrid engine

It is no secret that Kia is preparing the Sorento 7-seater SUV for the Indian market. The SUV is likely to be launched in the current financial year, most probably in Q1, 2027. Ahead of the official launch, the bodyshell of the 7-seater Kia SUV was spotted being transported on a truck bed. This suggests that the new Kia SUV will have a higher level of localisation to keep its pricing competitive.

Set to be Kia’s first hybrid vehicle in India, the upcoming Sorento will take on the likes of the upcoming 7-Seater Renault Bigster, Maruti Grand Vitara 7-seater and Toyota Hyrydyer 7-seater. Honda is also developing a new 7-seater SUV based on the new PF2 architecture, and it will get the next-gen hybrid powertrain. Kia’s Korean-cousin, Hyundai is also developing a premium 7-seater hybrid SUV (Codenamed Ni1i) which is also likely to arrive in our market in 2027.

In the global markets, the Kia Sorento is available with multiple powertrains, including a 1.6L turbo petrol hybrid, a 1.6L turbo petrol plug-in hybrid and a 2.2L diesel. The higher variants also come with an AWD (all-wheel drive) system. The India-spec model is reportedly to get a 1.5L strong hybrid powertrain, which will also power the Kia Seltos hybrid and the next-gen Hyundai Creta. Kia could also utilise the 1.6L hybrid engine that powers the new Seltos in Europe.

Big Size

In terms of proportions, the Kia Sorento is 4815mm long, 1900mm wide and 1700mm tall. The SUV rides on 2815mm long wheelbase. Compared to the Mahindra XUV 7XO, the Sorento hybrid will be around 120mm longer, 10mm wider and 55mm shorter. In fact, its wheelbase is around 65mm longer than the XUV 7XO (2750mm wheelbase).

Key Features of Sorento

The new Sorento 7-seater SUV will come equipped with several advanced comfort and convenience features. It will have dual 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and driver’s display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, Bose premium sound system, heated steering wheel, ventilated and powered front seats, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, etc. For safety and security, the SUV will have LEVEL 2 ADAS suite, tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, hill start assist, a 360-degree surround view camera, downhill brake control and more.
