On the occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day, Mahindra has unveiled its latest concept - the Vision SXT. This bold, boxy pickup is inspired by the Thar.e concept revealed in 2023 but adds a flatbed, extra cladding, and twin spare wheels mounted at the rear. Designed for adventure, the Vision SXT combines rugged looks with practical features.
From the front, the Vision SXT’s design feels familiar with square headlamp surrounds, a high-set bonnet, and a wide grille reminiscent of the Thar.e.
However, it stands out with a wider stance, a tougher bumper, and wheel arches that look like they belong on an armoured vehicle. Its flat, clean surfaces add to its confident road presence, while the short front overhang hints at strong off-road potential.
The rear of the Vision SXT is where it makes its biggest statement. Two spare wheels mounted vertically on the flatbed signal its long-distance, off-road intentions. Slim, vertically stacked tail-lamps frame a simple tailgate, while a functional rear bumper reinforces its utility-first approach. This is a pickup made for explorers, not just city driving.
The upright glasshouse, vertical windscreen, and SUV-like proportions show its connection to the Thar.e and Mahindra’s Vision.T concept. The Vision SXT could easily join them in showrooms one day, with the Thar.e serving as a lifestyle SUV and the Vision SXT as a lifestyle pickup – one for weekend trails, the other for long-haul adventures.
Under the skin, the Vision SXT rides on Mahindra’s NFA modular monocoque platform, designed for future SUVs and pickups. Unlike ladder-frame designs, this promises better comfort and on-road refinement. The platform can support petrol, diesel, hybrid, and fully electric powertrains – making an all-electric Vision SXT a likely future reality.
Mahindra says the NFA platform will also support modern driver-assist features, connected cabin technology, and multiple terrain modes. If the Vision SXT enters production between 2027 and 2030, it could redefine Mahindra’s pickup lineup, blending style, utility, and electric power.
For now, the Mahindra Vision SXT remains a concept, but its mix of Thar.e-inspired design and practical pickup utility suggests it could be a major player in the brand’s next-gen adventure vehicle family.
