Maruti Suzuki is preparing two new mid-sized SUVs, including the e Vitara and an all-new Y17 model for the Indian market. Both SUVs will arrive in our market before the end of this year. The new Y17 SUV, rumoured to be called the Maruti Suzuki Escudo will be a 5-seater model.
Maruti Suzuki has announced to launch an all-new model on September 3, 2025. It is expected that the company could launch the new Escudo, as the e Vitara introduction could be delayed due to shortage of rare earth materials. Sales of the new Escudo is expected to begin during the festive season, before Diwali.
The new Maruti Suzuki Escudo will be sold through ARENA dealership network. It will be the flagship model at ARENA dealerships, as Maruti Suzuki’s Grand Vitara is only available through NEXA premium dealership network.
The new Escudo was earlier planned to be a 7-seater model; however, Maruti Suzuki changed its plans citing rising demand for 5-seater SUVs in India. The new Y17 SUV will be longer than the Grand Vitara, which measures 4,345mm in length. The Escudo could measure around 4.4-4.5 meters in length.
The increase in length will help Maruti Suzuki engineers to create more space inside the cabin. Adding to it, the SUV is expected to offer more boot space than the Grand Vitara, which has a cargo area of 373-litres.
It is expected that the new Maruti Suzuki Escudo will share the engine options with the Grand Vitara. It will get the tried & tested 102bhp, 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine with a mild hybrid tech. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
It is early to comment whether the new Escudo will get the Toyota’s strong hybrid engine or not. We believe that the SUV could get the 92bhp, 1.5L, 3-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine, paired to an electric motor producing 79bhp and 141Nm of torque.
The new Escudo will be positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara in terms of market positioning and pricing. To be sold through ARENA dealership network, the Maruti Escudo will come as an affordable option to buyers who are not interested in Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos or even Maruti Grand Vitara. We expect the new Maruti Suzuki Escudo to cost around Rs 10 lakh to Rs 18 lakh.
