The Suzuki Swift, launched in New Zealand in May 2024 and in Australia in June 2024, scored a one-star safety rating from ANCAP. The rating applies to all the variants of the Swift sold in these markets. Tests were conducted based on models available in Australia and New Zealand, which were found to have different performance characteristics than the European versions of the Swift.
The Suzuki Swift was well-scored for side impacts; the head and chest of both the driver and the passenger were very well protected. However, in the offset frontal test, weak chest protection to the driver was obtained and weaker lower limbs. Issues about injury prospects are reported at some points, with less protection for the chest of the rear passenger.
The Swift performed well in the tests for child safety when they were placed at the rear. It has ISOFIX anchorages and top secure points for child seats. The neck is, however, not well protected in the test by the 6-year-old child dummy in the frontal offset impact and weakly protected with regard to the chest.
The Swift showed good protection for pedestrians and cyclists in forward emergency braking tests. However, it performed poorly in reversing with no AEB system available for backover scenarios. Pedestrian protection in some areas, such as the base of the windscreen, was rated poor.
The Swift comes with the latest technologies: Advanced Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Keep Assist. Most of these features have delivered great performances in numerous test scenarios. The only drawbacks that impact its safety-assist feature score are the absence of a driver monitoring system and rear seatbelt reminder systems.
Standard safety features in Swift include dual frontal, side, and head-protecting airbags and autonomous emergency braking. Lane support systems in the car include lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and emergency lane keeping. Some safety features are still missing in the car, such as a centre airbag that will prevent injuries from occurring in case of a side impact crash and a multi-collision braking system.
