Maruti Suzuki to Launch 2 New Hybrid SUVs - 7-Seater Vitara and Fronx Facelift

In order to regain 50% market share, Maruti Suzuki is looking at low-cost hybrid vehicles for the Indian market. The company is developing a new entry-level 1.2L strong hybrid engine to power its small cars, including Fronx, Baleno, Dzire and Brezza. Adding to it, the company is preparing a new 3-row SUV to challenge the likes of the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and others. This SUV will also get a hybrid powertrain.

7-Seater Grand Vitara

The new Maruti 7-seater SUV is likely to be based on Suzuki’s Global-C platform that underpins the Grand Vitara, Victoris and Brezza. The platform will be heavily modified to accommodate a longer wheelbase and a third-row seat. It will come with all-new design with significant changes compared to the Grand Vitara. The premium SUV is expected to be launched sometime in late 2026 or early 2027. It is expected to be offered with a 1.5L NA petrol and a Toyota-sourced 1.5L TNGA hybrid engine.

Fronx Facelift

Maruti Suzuki is alternate fuel options, which is evident from the global display of Fronx Flex-fuel version. It is expected that the Fronx will be the Maruti’s first product to offer petrol, hybrid, CNG and flex-fuel engine options. The company has already started testing the hybrid version of the Maruti Fronx facelift. Moreover, the updated Fronx is likely to come with ADAS tech with features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane assist, auto high beam and others.

It will come with a newly developed series hybrid engine, which is also known as range extenders. Maruti Suzuki will utilise the new 1.2L, Z-Series, 3-cylinder NA petrol engine for the new hybrid system. The engine will produce electricity to power an electric motor that drives the wheels. The electric motor draws power from either a battery pack or from a generator run by the petrol engine.
