Continuing its focus on the top-end luxury vehicle segment Mercedes-Benz India has just launched the new G 400d in India. It replaces the G 350d which was introduced back in 2019 and has proven to be quite a popular model in the market. Let’s take a closer look.
The new G 400d is being offered in two variants, AMG Line and Adventure Edition. Mercedes says the latter has been specifically designed for India. It comes in 4 special exterior colour options including Travertine beige metallic, Desert Sand non-metallic, South Seas blue metallic, and Vintage blue-non metallic.
The G 400d Adventure Edition gets off-road focused accessories like a roof rack, removable ladder, a rugged spare wheel holder, 5-spoke, 18-inch alloy wheels, and a Nappa leather-covered steering wheel. In comparison, the AMG Line variant gets a sportier AMG body kit, 20-inch alloy wheels, a sliding sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, a premium audio setup from Burmester, and more.
Powering the G 400d is the same 3.0-litre, in-line six-turbo diesel motor as the G 350d. However, the new model makes more peak power and torque figures at 330 bhp and 700 Nm, respectively. It is mated to a 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The second-generation G Class is underpinned by an old-school ladder frame chassis. It has 241 mm of ground clearance, water wading capability of up to 700 mm, and gets a special G-Mode off-road driving setup.
Both the Mercedes G 400d Adventure Edition and AMG Line models are priced at Rs 2.55 crore (ex-showroom), Rs 83 lakh more than the G 350d. The brand has also started accepting bookings for the new SUV at Rs 1.5 lakh. However, do note that existing Mercedes-Benz customers will be given first preference at bookings. The G 400d rivals the likes of the Land Rover Defender and Toyota Land Cruiser 300 in India.
