JSW MG Motor India is gearing up for the launch of the new Windsor EV, which will be branded as a crossover utility vehicle or CUV. It is basically the re-badged version of the Wuling Cloud EV on sale in select international markets. MG Motor India would aim to launch the new electric vehicle at a very aggressive price tag to further strengthen its EV market position.
JSW MG Motor India is aiming to achieve close to 80% localisation levels for the upcoming Windsor EV. As a reference, the brand's ZS EV has a localisation level of around 30-40%, while the current localisation level in Comet EV is about 60%. Higher import duties are the main reason behind lower localisation levels in both EVs.
Despite lower localisation levels, MG Motor India has managed to price both the vehicles quite nicely. And, the same is expected with the upcoming MG Windsor EV. With higher levels of localisation, MG could price the Windsor EV competitively against the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400 and the newly launched Tata Curvv EV.
The MG Windsor EV will be positioned between the Comet EV and the ZS EV. We expect the new EV to cost somewhere around Rs 14 lakh to Rs 19 lakh. At this price point, it will undercut the newly launched Tata Curvv EV and will sit equivalent to the Nexon EV.
The new Windsor EV will ride on a 2700mm long wheelbase, and will measure around 4.3 meters in length. The company has released a new teaser that reveals that the electric CUV will come with India's first Aero-lounge seats with 35 degree recline. It has all-black leatherette seats with headrests for all 3 occupants in the second-row.
Similar to the Cloud EV, the Windsor EV is likely to get a large 15.6-inch floating touchscreen infotainment unit. The infotainment unit will have controls for most of the functions including Air-conditioning. It will come with a panoramic sunroof, an ADAS suite and a 360-degree surround view camera. Safety features are likely to include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, ESC, HHC, electronic parking brake with auto hold function, TPMs and others.
The new Windsor EV is expected to come with a front-axle mounted electric motor, which draws power from a 50.6kWh battery pack. The electric motor is rated at 134bhp, and offers a peak torque of 200Nm. It is likely to offer an impressive range of up to 500km on a single charge.
