The latest generation of the Volkswagen Tiguan has scored 5-star safety ratings in European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) crash tests. The Tiguan SUV received 83 percent in adult occupant protection, 88 percent in protecting child occupancy, and 84 percent for vulnerable road users.
Internationally, in its third generation, the Tiguan SUV is offered with a range of safety features along with ADAS. These features helped the SUV to score 5-star safety ratings. Here is the detailed breakup of the points received:
Adult Occupant - 33.5 Points
In the frontal impact, the Tiguan scored 10.7 points out of 16. The lateral impact received impressive ratings of 15.1 out of 16 points. For the rear impact, the SUV collected 3.6 points out of 4 points. Overall, the Tiguan SUV received 33.5 points (83%).
Child Occupant - 43.2 Points
The child occupancy test was performed for the 6 & 10 year old children. In the frontal impact, it scored 16 points while for the lateral impact, it received 8 points. Its safety features are rated at 7.3 points out of 13. The Child Restraint System (CRS) collected 12 points out of 12. The total points secured for child occupant safety were 43.2 points (88%).
Vulnerable Road Users - 53.5 Points
For the VRU impact protection, the Tiguan received 30.1 out of 36 points while for the VRU impact mitigation, 23.3 points were collected out of 27. Other tests were like AEB Pedestrian (6.5/9 points), AEB Cyclist (7.8/8 points), Cyclist Dooring Prevention (0.5/1 point), AEB Motorcyclist (6/6 points), and Laen Support Motorcyclist (2.5/3 points).
Safety Assist - 14.2 Points
Under this test, the Volkswagen Tiguan collected 14.2 (78%) points in total. While the Lane Support scored 3/3 points, the AEB Car-to-Car secured 8.3/9 points.
