Lexus is all set to reveal the second-gen LM MPV at the 2023 Shanghai Motor Show on April 18. The upcoming LM MPV is based on the Toyota Vellfire and Alphard which will be making their global debuts at the same event. Lexus says the LM is aimed at executives who want a comfortable and luxurious chauffeur-driven experience but don’t want a SUV or sedan.
Unlike the first-gen LM which was sold in only a select international markets, the next-gen model will be offered in much more markets like the United Kingdom and Europe. The LM is also expected to be launched in India by the end of the year.
Lexus is yet to announce any details of the upcoming LM. However, the brand did release a teaser recently that shows the upcoming MPV’s new, smoother C- and D-pillars. It looks like Lexus will be giving the next-gen model a complete redesign as the distinct glasshouse of the current LM has been fully changed.
The all-new LM will be offered in 4- or 7-seat layouts like the outgoing model. The headline feature of the next-gen MPV’s interior will be the reclining seats with massage function and ‘AdaptiPedic' memory foam used on the rear seats.
Another notable feature will be a glass panel between the front and rear seats that can be raised at the press of a button. It will provide better separation and privacy for the rear occupants.
The next-gen LM will likely be powered by a 2.5-litre strong hybrid powertrain that pairs an Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with dual electric motors. Combined, it makes 264 bhp with 204 Nm of max torque. The motor will be mated to an e-CVT automatic gearbox.
The automaker had previously confirmed during the 2023 Auto Expo that it will be introducing the LM in India sometime this year. As per the latest reports, Lexus will be launching the all-new second-gen model in place of the first-gen model that was showcased at the Auto Expo.
