The sub-4 meter sedan segment will witness the arrival of two new-generations of existing models in the next 6 months. After launching the new Swift, Maruti Suzuki is now preparing to introduce the next-gen Dzire sedan. On the other side, the popular Honda Amaze sedan will also enter the third generation before the end of this year.
Maruti Suzuki is yet to reveal the official launch date of the new Dzire, but it is expected to arrive during the festive season, around September 2024. The compact sedan will be based on the same HEARTECT platform that underpins the new Swift. However, the sedan will receive significantly different front styling than the Swift hatchback.
The new Dzire will have a new grille, bigger headlamps with multibeam LEDs and new bumper with different air intake. The rear also has different styling, featuring new tailgate and tail-lights. The cabin design will be similar to the Swift hatchback; however, it is expected to receive dual-tone black and beige interior scheme instead of all-black in its hatchback sibling.
The new Maruti Dzire is likely to receive segment-first electric sunroof. It could also receive a 360-degree surround view camera. The Dzire compact sedan will get the same Z12E, 1.2L 3-cylinder engine that powers the Swift. Paired to either a 5-speed MT or an AMT, the new 3-cylinder engine produces 82PS and 112Nm of torque.
Honda Cars India will introduce the third-generation Amaze sedan in the country by the end of this year or in early 2025. Production of the car is expected to commence in December 2024, while deliveries are likely in January 2025. The new-gen Honda Amaze will be based on the same platform that underpins the City sedan and the Elevate SUV.
The platform will be modified to accommodate a smaller sedan with a shorter wheelbase. For reference, the current Amaze has a wheelbase of 2,470mm while the City rides on 2600mm wheelbase. The new-gen Amaze sedan design will be inspired by the Accord sedan on sale in global markets. It will also share the interiors with the Elevate SUV.
The third-gen Amaze is likely to be powered by the same 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 90hp and 110Nm. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
