The new MG ZS (which is sold in India as MG Astor) with the petrol-hybrid powertrain was revealed for the European and Australian markets in August 2024. Now, this model made its India debut at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show alongside the MG HS PHEV, MG 7 Trophy, MG IM 5 and 6, MG Cyberster, MG M9 and MG Majestor. It’s essentially the updated version of the MG Astor, which is already on sale in global markets.
At the Auto Expo, JSW MG Motor India has confirmed that the new MG Astor Hybrid (MG ZS HEV) will be launched soon. However, the exact launch date is yet to be announced.
The new Astor features a 1.5L strong hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.5L petrol engine paired to an electric motor. The gasoline motor pushes out a maximum power of 102bhp, while the e-motor delivers a claimed power of 136bhp and 250Nm of torque. The combined power and torque outputs are 196bhp and 343Nm, respectively. This setup is claimed to accelerate 0 to 100kmph in 8.7 second, and attain a top speed of 167kmpl.
Several noticeable changes have been made inside the cabin. The updated MG Astor comes with a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a new steering wheel and redesigned AC vents. The centre console has also been revised. It now features a new aircraft-style gear lever along with an electronic paring brake and two cupholders. The leatherette seat upholstery enhance its premium feel, while all seats with adjustable headrests ensures comfort.
This new MG SUV also offers features such as a 6-way powered driver’s seat with lumbar support, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, wireless phone charger, heated front seats, automatic AC unit, heated front seats and steering wheel, rear privacy glass and a 360 degree camera. The new Astor also has a Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite offering features such as adaptive cruise control, active emergency braking, lane keep assist, etc.
The front and rear profile of the new Astor look refreshed, thanks to several cosmetic updates. The SUV now features a newly-designed octagonal grille, redesigned headlamp clusters and revised bumper. The design of the grille and bumper shares resemblance to the MG3 hatchback. The MG logo has been repositioned on the top of the front bumper instead of the grille. The bonnet seems to be stretched a bit as well.
The updated Astor has new alloy wheels and larger window area. At the back, the SUV sports a redesigned tailgate, new taillamps and revised bumper. The registration plate is placed in the centre of the tailgate instead of the rear bumper.
