Next-gen MG Astor and ZS EV to be based on SIGMA platform Launch expected in 2027 To be based on modular SIGMA platform
MG Motor India is reportedly working on the next-generation of the Astor mid-size SUV and the ZS EV. The company is looking to phase out the current Astor and ZS EV platform, and the next-gen models will be based on an all-new architecture. A new media report reveals that the upcoming midsize SUVs are expected to be based on the brand’s all-in-one modular SIGMA (SAIC Intelligent Global Modular Architecture) platform.
The new SIGMA is a flexible platform that can support different sized vehicles and multiple powertrains, including internal-combustion, pure-electric, and hybrids. This platform currently underpins models such as the MG One SUV on sale in international markets.
The new midsize SUV will be offered with both combustion and electric powertrains. The new models will be equipped with high-end and modern tech, and features. It will directly take on the segment leaders like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The new MG SUV will carry a unique design, and will look different than the One SUV. The new midsize SUV is expected to be launched in our market in 2027.
MG Motor India will soon announce the prices of the Majestor full-size SUV, which will rival the Toyota Fortuner. The company will introduce the IM6 by October this year, and it will be retailed through MG’s Select Channel. Adding to it, the company will introduce a new 3-row SUV based on the Wuling Starlight 560 on sale in Indonesia. This SUV will be offered with both PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) and electric powertrains. Likely to be launched by the end of 2026, the new SUV will rival the Mahindra XUV 7XO and XEV 9S.
