The long-awaited new Renault Duster has finally been introduced in our market with sales set to begin from March 2026. After Duster, the French automaker will introduce an all-new 7-seater SUV in our market. It will be based on the same platform that underpins the Duster.
The new Renault 7-seater SUV is most likely to be the 7-seater version of the Boreal SUV, which has recently been launched in select international markets including Brazil. The SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO.
Renault is yet to reveal the official launch date of the new Boreal 7-seater, but it is reportedly to be launched by the end of this year, most probably before Diwali 2026. It is basically the Renault’s version of the Dacia Bigster. It is based on the CMF-B modular platform, which is claimed to be flexible enough to accommodate different powertrains and body sizes.
The current Boreal is 4,556mm long, 2082mm wide and 1650mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2702mm. The 7-seater model could grow further with length could hit around 4.6-4.7 meters. The current model has a ground clearance of 213mm, and has a boot space of 522-litres. Renault India will utilise the boot space to accommodate third-row seat. The length could be further extended up to 4.7 meters to create more space for both second and third-row occupants.
The new 7-seater Renault Duster is expected to be offered with two powertrain options - a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged direct injection engine, and a 1.8L GDI petrol with a strong hybrid system. The former is capable of producing 163PS and 280Nm of torque, and is paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The hybrid version gets a 1.8L GDI engine with two electric motors and a 1.4kWh battery pack. The combined power and torque output stands at 160hp and 205Nm, respectively. The same powertrain will also be offered with the new Duster by Diwali. Renault claims that the SUV can do 80% of city driving in EV-only mode.
