In a bid to regain lost market share, Renault is chalking out a fresh product strategy for the Indian market. The company has recently launched the updated Triber, and is ready to relaunch the Kiger with massive updates. However, the third generation Renault Duster will be the brand’s biggest launch in the country.
Speaking to ET Auto, Francisco Hidalgo, Vice-President (Sales & Marketing) Renault India said that the Duster enjoys huge popularity among customers. Launched in 2012, the Duster SUV was a runway success. The SUV is set to make a comeback in 2026, and Renault India is aiming to capitalise on the immense buzz.
The report further claims that the Renault Duster return is creating immense buzz among customers. In fact, some enthusiasts have already made advanced payments to dealers to be among the first to own the SUV. Adding to it, the customers have no clue on the new Duster launch date but insists that they want to be the first to lay their hands on the SUV.
Renault has taken multiple steps to make a comeback in the highly competitive Indian market. The company has bought Nissan’s 51% stake in the Chennai manufacturing facility and inaugurated a new design centre.

It is reported that the production of the new-gen Renault Duster is likely to begin in September 2025 at Chennai based manufacturing facility. It will first come in petrol avatar, while a hybrid version is also under development with launch expected in late 2026 or early 2027.
The new Duster is most likely to be powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 151bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. The lower-spec variants could either get a 1.5L NA petrol or a 1.0L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine.
Details about the hybrid engine are still under wraps. In the global markets, the SUV gets a 94bhp, 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine, which works with dual electric motors and a 1.2kWh battery. Adding to it, Renault is also likely to launch the CNG version of the new Duster.
The new Duster is based on the CMF-B modular platform, which will also underpin a new 7-seater SUV Boreal and Nissan’s C-segment SUV. In terms of features, the SUV will have a 360-degree surround view camera, LEVEL 2 ADAS, 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital driver’s display, powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats and others.
