Renault has recently announced that the third generation Duster SUV will arrive in our market in early 2026. A new media report claims that the new Renault Duster SUV production will begin in September 2025 at Renault-Nissan alliance’s Chennai plant, while launch could take place in the first quarter of 2026. It will directly rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Curvv and others in the category.
Renault India will initially launch the petrol powered version of the third-generation Duster SUV. Moreover, the company will also launch the Bigster based 7-seater SUV, the Boreal after the new Duster. The report further claims that the new gen Duster will come with a hybrid powertrain.
The Duster Hybrid is reportedly to be launched within 6-12 months of the petrol launch. Similarly, Renault Boreal will also receive a strong hybrid powertrain. The new generation Duster is based on the CMF-B modular platform that also underpins the Dacia Bigster. Renault will also introduce the Duster 7-seater SUV, which is scheduled to make global debut as Renault Boreal on July 10, 2025.
Details about the India-spec Renault Duster hybrid are yet to be revealed. The global-spec model gets a strong hybrid option, featuring a 94hp, 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, a 1.2kWh battery, a 49hp electric motor and a high-voltage starter generator. The combined power output stands at 140hp.
It gets an electric automatic gearbox as standard, which allows this SUV to run purely on electric drive for up to 80 percent of city driving. The Dacia Bigster also gets a more powerful hybrid system, offering a total power output of 155hp. The hybrid system comprising a 108hp petrol engine, a 51hp electric motor, a starter generator and a 1.4kWh battery.
It is expected that the new Renault Duster will get the tried and tested 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 151bhp and 250Nm of peak torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) automatic gearbox. The India-spec model could also get a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine with manual and CVT options.
