Renault to launch Bridger by mid-2027 Next-gen Kia Sonet and Mahindra Vision S arriving in early 2027

The highly competitive sub-compact SUV segment in India is all set to receive a massive philosophical shift. While current crop of cars are softer, urban crossovers, the next wave of arrivals is shifting toward rugged, boxy stances, improved cabin space, and multi-powertrain strategies. Three highly anticipated compact SUVs are locked for production and commercial release next year. 


Renault Bridger


Expected Launch: Around mid-2027
Estimated Price: Rs 8 lakh - 14 lakh


Renault has officially announced that the production-spec Bridger compact SUV will arrive in our market in 2027. To be marketed as a lifestyle offering, the new Bridger SUV will be positioned between the Kiger and the new-gen Renault Duster. It will be manufactured locally at Renault’s Chennai facility for domestic as well as export markets. The SUV gets an aggressive, off-road inspired styling, featuring flat bonnet, flared wheel arches, and a prominent tailgate-mounted spare wheel. 


It will be based on the new RGMP platform that also underpins the new Duster. will be offered with a 1.2L turbo petrol engine, which will be hybrid ready. This is likely to be a 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine with a power and torque output of around 114bhp and 190Nm, respectively. The company will also introduce a strong hybrid version of the SUV at a later stage. Adding to it, the Bridger will be offered with an electric powertrain. 


Mahindra Vision S

Rumoured to be the smallest member of the Scorpio family, the Mahindra Vision S Concept based SUV is likely to make its debut in production avatar on August 15, 2026. The SUV is expected to be launched in the end of 2026 or in the Q1, 2027.  It will be marketed as a lifestyle SUV, and will target the upcoming Renault Bridger and Tata Scarlet.


The SUV will mark the debut of Mahindra’s new NU_IQ monocoque modular architecture, which is compatible with ICE (internal combustion engine), hybrid and electric powertrains. The Mahindra Vision S is likely to be offered with the brand’s proven 1.5L, four-cylinder diesel engine that also powers the XUV 3XO. Its petrol version will get the 1.2L turbo unit. Mahindra is also planning to launch its EV and hybrid versions in future.


Next-gen Kia Sonet

Kia India has commenced public road testing of the next-generation Kia Sonet. Internally codenamed QY2E, the new Sonet will come with massive change in structure, space, cabin technology and safety. The biggest mechanical upgrade for the 2027 Sonet is its new, highly advanced K1 platform instead of the older K1 platform. The wheelbase is expected to be increased by 20mm, which will allow Kia engineers to create more space inside the cabin. The spy images reveal that the next-gen SUV will have a more mature, upright profile. 


The next-gen Kia Sonet is expected to receive the premium tech layouts inspired by the new Kia Seltos and Syros. The new Kia Sonet is expected to retain the existing engine options, including an 83bhp, 1.2L NA petrol, a 120hp, 1.0L 3-cylinder, turbo petrol, and a 116hp, 1.5L turbo diesel. Kia is also developing a strong hybrid engine for the Sonet, which is likely to arrive sometime in 2028.
