The French automaker, Renault is preparing to launch its much-awaited Duster lifestyle SUV in the Indian market in 2026. The company has also confirmed to introduce a 7-seater derivative of the third-gen Duster, which is also arriving in our market. Called Renault Boreal, the new SUV will challenge the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700 and others in the category. Renault has confirmed that the new Boreal 7-seater SUV will be introduced in the country in 2026. It will arrive after the launch of the third-gen Duster SUV, which is arriving in the first half of 2026. A possible introduction in the second half of 2026 can’t be ignored.
Renault has confirmed that the new Boreal will first launch in the Brazilian markets. It will be introduced in more than 70 countries across Latin America and Asia. The India launch is planned in the latter half of 2026.
The new Boreal will share its platform and some design elements with the new Duster; however, Renault will make enough changes to give it a fresh look. It will ride on a longer wheelbase and a longer body to accommodate the third row of seats. Moreover, the SUV will receive more features compared to the 5-seater Duster.
The Boreal 7-seater SUV is likely to share design cues with the third-gen Duster and Dacia Bigster. It will have a typical Renault front design, which we have already seen on the new-gen Duster. The front will have a Duster-like grille with chrome inserts, and sleeker headlamps with Y-shaped LED daytime running lamps. Its lower bumper accommodate large air intakes at both ends, and a low-set fog lamps. Additionally, the SUV gets a raised bonnet with sharp creases.
It will come with squared-off wheel arches, roof rails, black body cladding, large dual-tone alloy wheels, and V-shaped LED tail-lamps with a Y-shaped pattern along with an integrated roof spoiler.
The new Boreal will share its cabin features and dashboard layout with the third-gen Duster SUV. The SUV could come with more premium features.
It is likely to get a 10.1-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a fully-digital instrument console. In terms of features, the 3-row SUV could get panoramic sunroof, an Arkamys sound system, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a powered tailgate, 2-zone climate control and LEVEL 2 ADAS suite.
The new Boreal 7-seater SUV is likely to be powered by a tried & tested 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 151bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Renault is also considering hybrid engine for the India-spec models. The Boreal is likely to get a 94bhp, 1.6L naturally-aspirated petrol engine combined to a strong hybrid setup comprising a 49bhp electric motor, a high voltage starter generator, and a 1.2kWh battery pack. The combined power output stands at 140bhp.
Yes, the Boreal is most likely to come with a 4x4. The CMF-B modular platform is compatible with 4x4 and AWD drivetrain. In fact, the new Duster with 4x4 setup has already been introduced in global markets.
Set to be positioned against the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700, the new Boreal 7-seater SUV is expected to be priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 22 lakh.

Information on the availability of sunroof in the Boreal is yet to be available; however, the SUV could get a panoramic sunroof.
The Renault Boreal will be available with two seating options including a 6-seater and a 7-seater layout. The former will have captain seats in the second-row.
