Toyota and Maruti Suzuki have made a new fuel recommendation for some of their popular hybrid cars. If you own the hybrid version of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder or Maruti Grand Vitara, the companies now advise using RON95 petrol instead of regular 91-octane fuel. This change is meant to keep the engine running smoothly and to avoid damage to important parts.
Toyota has updated the owner's manual for cars made from March 2025 onwards. It now clearly states that RON95 or higher-grade fuel should be used for better performance. This applies to both the Toyota Innova Hycross and Hyryder. For the Innova Hycross, Toyota hasn’t separated the fuel advice for petrol and hybrid engines, which means the rule might apply to both.
Maruti’s Invicto, which is based on the Toyota Innova Hycross, will also follow the same fuel rule for models built after March 2025. This shows that both brands are taking a similar approach to protect their hybrid engines.
For the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Grand Vitara, only the hybrid versions need RON95 fuel. If you use lower-quality fuel like RON91 in these models, it can harm the catalytic converter, a part that helps control pollution. The non-hybrid models can still use regular RON91 fuel safely.
Technically, the cars can still run on RON91, but it’s not a good idea for the hybrids. Using lower-grade fuel could lead to early damage and costly repairs. RON95 gives better performance and helps the engine last longer.
Even though RON95 petrol is a bit more expensive than RON91, it’s a safer choice for hybrid car owners. It helps the engine run better, reduces the chance of damage, and can save you money on repairs in the long run.
