Suzuki had globally introduced the new-gen Swift hatchback in December 2023. The hatchback is already on sale in our market and has received an overwhelming response from buyers. The Japanese automaker is also readying a performance oriented Swift Sport, which is scheduled to be launched before the end of 2024.
A new media report claims that the 2024 Suzuki Swift Sport will make its global debut in September 2024. The model weighs just 970kg and is 70kg lighter than the previous model, which suggests that Suzuki will continue to offer lighter cars in the future.
The new Suzuki Swift Sport will receive a newly developed K14D type 1.4-litre, inline, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine with a 48V ISG (integrated starter generator). The mild-hybrid system was offered on the older Swift Sport hybrid model. Its ISG offers 13.6bhp of additional power, and the total power output stands at 140bhp and 229Nm of torque.
The Swift Sport is only offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox, which is claimed to offer better acceleration from low speeds and improves fuel efficiency by up to 16%. The mild hybrid setup gives additional power during acceleration and high-load driving. It generates electricity during deceleration to charge the lithium-ion battery.
The new Swift Sport is likely to measure around 3990mm in length, 1750mm in width and 1500mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,450mm. As a reference, the standard Swift is powered by a 1.2L, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 81bhp and 111.7Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and an AMT. The Japanese-spec model gets a CVT and a mild-hybrid system as well.
