Tata Motors has recently launched the much-awaited Harrier EV SUV in the country. Priced at Rs 21.49 lakh, the electric SUV will be available for bookings from July 2, 2025. At the launch event, Tata Motors has confirmed that it will introduce Sierra EV and ICE versions before the end of this financial year. Moreover, the Harrier and Safari will receive petrol engine options in India.
Tata Motors had revealed the 1.2L, 3-cylinder, turbocharged and 1.5L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engines at the 2023 Auto Expo. The smaller engine debuts in the Curvv SUV Coupe. The larger engine will power the Sierra, Harrier and Safari.
The 1.5 TGDi direct injection turbo-petrol engine is capable of producing 168bhp at 5,000rpm and a peak torque of 280Nm between 2,000 and 3,500rpm. It will be mated to manual and automatic gearboxes.
The new TGDi engine is constructed using aluminium and has stiffer construction. It comes with dual cam phasing and a variable oil pump along with an integrated exhaust manifold in the cylinder head. This engine is also fitted with a water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger, which is claimed to offer better torque and acceleration.
Tata Motors will introduce the Sierra EV in the country during festive season, before Diwali. The ICE version is expected in the end of this year or early next year. It will be positioned as a premium alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Maruti Grand Vitara.
The Harrier and Safari will receive the new 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox choices. Adding to it, the company is preparing the Punch facelift and Punch EV facelift. A total of 7 new Tata nameplates will be introduced in our market before the end of this decade. The company will introduce the Avinya nameplate in 2027, two brand new ICE and two new EVs.
