Tata Has Bigger Plans for the Sierra Than Expected

Sierra EV launch expected in 2026 AWD version coming in 2027 Mini Sierra SUV also in the works

Tata Motors is not just bringing back the Sierra as a nostalgic product. The company is planning to turn it into a key part of its future SUV lineup.

With a mix of electric and ICE models in the pipeline, the Sierra nameplate is set to play a much bigger role than expected.

Tata Sierra Is Becoming a Full Lineup

What started as a comeback is now turning into a full range of SUVs. Tata is working on multiple versions of the Sierra, each targeting a different set of buyers.

The Tata Sierra EV is expected to arrive by August 2026. It is likely to be offered with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options, following a similar approach to the Tata Harrier EV.

The electric version will get distinct styling elements like a closed front grille and updated design touches, while keeping the overall look familiar.

AWD Version Brings Back a Missing Capability

Tata has also confirmed an all-wheel-drive version of the Sierra, which is expected to launch in early 2027. This will mark the return of a 4x4 ICE SUV from the brand after the Tata Hexa was discontinued.

The SUV will be built on Tata’s new ARGOS platform, which is designed to support multiple powertrains and body styles, making it future-ready.

A ‘Mini Sierra’ Could Expand the Reach

Tata is also working on a new compact SUV, codenamed Scarlet. Often referred to as a ‘Mini Sierra’, this model is expected to borrow design cues from the larger SUV.

It will likely feature a boxy and upright stance and could be offered with both petrol engines and electric options. This will help Tata target a wider audience in the compact SUV segment.
