Tata Motors to introduce a new XT trim to the Tiago NRG line-up; Existing XT trim of regular Tiago to get a host of new features; NRG Edition offers more ground clearance.
In an attempt to make its smallest car more viable, Tata Motors has rejigged the variants of the Tiago. The variant rejig brings new features to the existing value-for-money trims along with the introduction of a new trim to the NRG line-up.
The NRG Edition is the more sporty and rugged version of the Tiago and is based on the top end XZ+ trim. The hatchback features a bold stance with muscular bumpers, body cladding, roof rails and 181 mm of ground clearance. To help make the model more affordable, the company is all-set to introduce a NRG model based on the XT trim. The new variant will get body cladding, infinity black roof rails, charcoal black interiors, front fog lamps, a rear defogger along with a washer and wiper over the standard XT variant.
According to the latest media reports, the existing XT trim will also get a host of new features such as 14-inch hyper style wheels, height adjustable driver’s seat, rear parcel shelf, co-driver side vanity mirror and a blacked out B-Pillar. Along with this, the Midnight Plum colour which was earlier limited to top-end trims will now be offered in the new XT variant. This update to its feature list will help the Tiago get a competitive edge over its major competitors like the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios during this festive season.
Adding cherry to the cake, Tata is also offering the Rhythm pack with the XT variant which adds a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rear view parking camera and 4 tweeters to the existing package. Currently there is no price hike from the company, but we expect one coming soon to counter the expenses of added features.
Mechanically, the Tiago remains the same and continues to be powered by a 1.2-litre 3 cylinder petrol engine paired to a 5 speed manual and a 5 speed AMT gearbox producing a maximum power output of 84 bhp and 113 Nm of peak torque.
Volkswagen Golf GTI bookings closed in India within days; only 150 units offered. Price to be announced soon, and slots may reopen based on demand.
