Car manufacturers in India have released their sales figures for the month of September 2024. Many manufacturers have posted strong sales last month, showing customers faith in the growing Indian economy. September sales also bring many surprises such as Mahindra's significant rise and a decline from Tata Motors.

Maruti Suzuki has retailed its top position in the list of top car manufacturers in terms of sales in India in the month of September 2024. The brand has recorded a total sales of 1,84,727, which includes both domestic and exports. MSIL has reported a YoY growth of 1.87% compared to 1,81,343 units sold in the same month last year.
However, Maruti Suzuki's domestic sales declined by 3.88%. The company sold 1,44,962 units in September 2024 as against 1,50,812 units in the same month last year. However, the month-on-month sales increased by 1.32%. The company has exported 27,728 vehicles in September 2024, which is a rise of 23.18% when compared to 22,515 units shipped in the same month last year.
Hyundai somehow manages to save its second position in the list of top car manufacturers in the Indian market. The company sold 51,101 cars in the domestic market in September 2024 as against 54,241 units in the same month last year. The Korean brand has reported a year-on-year decline of 5.79 per cent. However, the brand's month-on-month sales increased marginally by around 3 percent.
Mahindra surprises many with its strong sales in September 2024. In fact, the homegrown brand was just 39 units behind to cease second position from Hyundai. Mahindra sells around 51,062 utility vehicles in the passenger category in the month of September 2024 as against 41,267 units in the same month last year. The company has reported a Year-on-Year sales growth of around 23.74%.
Tata Motors sold 41,031 passenger cars in the month of September 2024, registering a YoY sales decline of 8.36 percent. In the same month last year, Tata sold 44,809 units. This was also the lowest sales figures for the brand since December 2022. In fact, Tata's month-on-month sales declined by 6.98 percent from August 2024, when it reported a total sales of 44,142 units. Tata's electric vehicle showed a massive YoY decline of 22.64%. The company sold 4,680 EVs in September 2024 as against 6,050 units in the same month last year.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor has reported a Year-on-Year sales growth of 14 percent in the month of September 2024. The company sold a total of 26,847 units, with domestic sales accounting for 23,802 units and exports totaling 3,045 units. In September 2023, Toyota had sold 23,590 units. In the first 6-months of FY2024-25, Toyota has reported a total sales of 1,62,623 units. In the corresponding period of the previous financial year, Toyota sold 1,23,939 units.
Kia Motors has posted a Year-on-Year sales growth of 17.49% in the month of September 2024. In fact, brand's MoM sales increased by 4.44%. Kia sold 23,523 units in September 2024 as against 20,022 units in the same month last year. The Sonet was the brand's top-selling model with 10,335 units sold last month, while Kia Seltos and Carens account for 6,959 units and 6,217 units, respectively.
