The Japanese car manufacturer, Toyota could reveal the long-awaited new-gen FJ Cruiser or Land Cruiser FJ at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show. This year’s event will happen between October 31 and November 9. In fact, previous media reports from Japan indicated that the baby Land Cruiser or mini Toyota Fortuner could be revealed in October 2025 with launch expected in early 2026.

Internally called the Project 500D, the new lifestyle off-roader will be the smallest and most affordable Land Cruiser and is expected to first launch in Thailand. With this SUV, Toyota will target adventure lovers but do not have the budget to opt for the regular Land Cruiser models, including the LC300 and LC250.
The new FJ Cruiser won’t use the Land Cruiser’s TNGA-F platform, as it will increase the production cost. This off-roader will be based on the IMV 0 platform that underpins the low-cost Hilux Champ. It is basically the heavily modified version of the IMV platform that underpins the Fortuner and Toyota Hilux lifestyle pick-up.

The leaked patent images suggest that the FJ Cruiser will carry a boxy, utilitarian shape. It is likely to share design cues with the Toyota Compact Cruiser EV Prototype, which was revealed in 2022. This SUV will come with strong front fenders, thick C-pillars, and a vertical rear end with a tailgate-mounted spare wheel.
According to the Japanese media, the new Toyota FJ Cruiser off-roader will measure around 4410mm in length, 1855mm in width and 1870mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2580mm. It will have a high ground clearance and a water wading capacity of around 800mm.
It is reported that the new Toyota FJ Cruiser cabin will have similarities with the Hilux, but with more modern comfort and convenience features. This SUV could get a better quality cabin with improved fit and finish along with better NVH levels.
The SUV is likely to carry off-road equipment along with a 360-degree camera, which will also capture images of the area under the car. This thing will help drivers to see the road conditions while off-roading.
The Toyota FJ Cruiser will come with a full time 4WD system that distributes torque to the front and rear wheels at a ratio of 40:60. Adding to it, the SUV will have a centre differential and a torsen LSD rear axle for improved driving performance on rough roads. The lifestyle off-roader will come with multiple driving modes, including ECO/NORMAL and Sport.
The new FJ Cruiser is expected to be powered by a 2.7-litre, 4-cylinder 2TR-FE petrol engine, which also powers the Thai-spec Hilux Champ. Paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, this engine produces 161bhp and 246Nm of torque.
In select markets, the new FJ Cruiser could get the tried and tested 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that also powers the Fortuner and Hilux in India. This engine is capable of producing 201bhp and up to 500Nm of torque.
