Toyota Prado Land Cruiser is spotted in India for the very first time. The SUV debuted worldwide in August 2023. Toyota has not displayed it at the Auto Expo 2025, though we had predicted that. Quite a few recent videos and spy shots of the SUV being exported were seen recently. These show us a clear view of the car's outside and inside.
Let's take a look at what we have so far.
The spy images unveil a strong, boxy shape with prominent features. The grille possesses vertical slats, suggesting that the model in question here is the VX variant. The boxy LED headlights give the car an even more rugged appearance, while the huge 20-inch black alloy wheels contribute towards its bold look. Some other features of the design are rain-sensing wipers and side steps for convenience.
Curiously, the VX model of this variant would usually not include a sunroof in countries like Australia. Nonetheless, the particular one seen driving in India was fitted with it, which may be an exclusive for the home market.
Internally, the Toyota Prado looks tidy and sophisticated. The interior is black and has a newly styled steering wheel that sports the 'TOYOTA' logo. The dashboard offers space for a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The system is also rumored to be wireless-charge-capable. The car comes with an electric adjustable driver's seat.
Apart from this, there are AC vents in the second and third row. They are designed to comfort all the passengers. The interior is loaded with luxury and utility in a wonderful blend.
The Prado has a 2.8-litre diesel motor in select markets such as Europe and Japan. The mill churns out 204 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. It is the very same motor Toyota Fortuner also uses. A 48V mild-hybrid system for added efficiency is an option in certain markets. That may not see India, though.
In countries such as the Middle East and North America, Prado boasts a 2.4-litre petrol-hybrid motor. It shares the motor with other Toyota and Lexus cars. Prado also receives an 8-speed automatic gearbox that is very smooth.
The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado will be launched in India by the end of 2025. The vehicle will be introduced as a CBU (completely built unit). Therefore, the car will carry a high price. The anticipated price of the Prado in India will be anywhere between Rs. 1.5 crore and Rs. 2 crore, ex-showroom.
The Toyota Prado will capture a position underneath the behemoth Land Cruiser (LC300) in Toyota's lineup. The LC300's base price stands at Rs 2.10 crore. The Prado, on the other hand, will be cheaper. It will also compete with the Land Rover Defender in India. Both cars are off-roaders and feature-cum-alike. But the Prado will be in demand from customers because of its cost factor.
