Toyota Kirloskar Motors, the frontrunner in the Indian MPV space, has taken the wraps off its budget MPV offering, the Rumion in the country. The brands expects the new Toyota Rumion to further strength presence in the Indian market. Based on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the MPV boasts of fuel-efficient engines and spacious cabins.
On the outside, the 2023 Toyota Rumion features a similar silhouette to the Maruti Suzuki model but gets an updated face to differentiate the models. The new face features an updated grille and bumper with new fog lamp housing. Moving to the sides, we get to see new 15-inch dual-tone machined alloy wheels which give the car a sporty appeal. At the rear, the new model features an identical tailgate with vertically stacked LED tail lamp.
Like the exterior, the interior also borrows its overall layout from the 2023 Ertiga. This includes a dual tone colour theme with wooden finish on the dashboard and door trims. Other new equipment on the inside include 7-nch SmartPlay Cast touchscreen, Arkamys Surround system, auto AC, roof mounted AC vents for the second row and height adjustable driver’s seat among others.
In terms of powertrain option, the new Rumion will be offered with both a petrol and CNG fuel types. The 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine is rated for a maximum power output of 101 bhp and peak torque of 136.8 Nm. This engine option comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The company is claiming a fuel efficient of 20.51 kmpl for this unit.
The other is the 1.5-litre K-Series CNG engine that produces a lower 86 bhp and 121.5 Nm of peak torque. This system is offered with only a 5-speed manual gearbox option and returns a claimed economy of 26.11 km/kg.
The CNG powertrain is offered on only the base S variant, while the petrol option is available on S, G and V trims.
In terms of safety, the all-new Toyota Rumion is offered with up to 4 airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, ABS with EBD, ESP, brake assist, hill hold and more.
Rivals to the 2023 Toyota Rumion include the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki XL6 and the KIA Carens.
Stellantis to launch Leapmotor EVs in India, starting with T03 and C10. Local assembly planned; sales via existing Jeep and Citroën dealerships.
