As reported by Autocar, Toyota Kirloskar Motors is getting ready to launch its first electric car in India. It will draw inspiration from the Urban SUV Concept that was revealed in December last year. Additionally, it is expected to be similar to Maruti's eVX, which is coming out by March 2025. You can expect Toyota's electric vehicle to arrive in Indian dealerships around September to October 2025, about six months after Maruti's release.
The dimensions of the Toyota Urban SUV Concept closely match those of the Maruti eVX, measuring 4,300mm in length, 1,820mm in width, and 1,620mm in height. It is anticipated that the production model will retain the same 2,700mm wheelbase.
Furthermore, it will use the 27PL skateboard platform shared with the eVX. This platform is expected to undergo substantial localization and will be produced at Suzuki's Gujarat facility in India to cater to both domestic and international markets.
Inspired by the concept, Toyota's electric SUV might feature striking, angular surfaces along with C-shaped LED DRLs, paired with a refined, minimalist front bumper. It may also sport flared wheel arches and a classic upright SUV silhouette. The rear design could be similar to the Maruti eVX.
Internally, expectations are for the production model to offer a plush cabin furnished with a wide range of amenities, safety features, and cutting-edge technology.
The upcoming electric SUV is likely to offer a choice between two battery pack sizes. A 60kWh option is expected to deliver an estimated range of approximately 550 kms while its more budget-friendly variant will come equipped with a 48kWh battery pack. This could offer around 400 kms of range.
Additionally, the automaker has disclosed plans to offer the SUV in both front-wheel drive (FWD) and dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations.
When it hits the market, Toyota's midsize electric SUV will compete against the Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Curvv EV, as well as its sibling, the Maruti eVX.
