Renault Duster hybrid launching this Diwali Nissan to unveil Tekton on July 9 Both will get 1.8L hybrid system

The midsize SUV segment’s strong hybrid space has long been dominated by Toyota Hyryder and its sibling, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. However, these two SUVs are set to face their toughest challenge yet. While Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos will receive hybrid powertrain in 2027, the Renault-Nissan alliance is preparing to launch the new Renault Duster and Nissan Tekton with a larger, more powerful 1.8-litre strong-hybrid powertrain.

Renault Duster Hybrid: Diwali Launch

Renault has re-introduced the Duster moniker with two turbo petrol engines. However, the SUV will also receive a strong hybrid powertrain this Diwali. In fact, the Duster hybrid has already been sold out for 2026. It is packed with a larger 1.8L, 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine paired with dual electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery pack.

The hybrid system punches out a combined power and torque output of 160hp and 172Nm, respectively. This is significantly higher than the Hyryder’s 1.5L Hybrid system that offers 115hp. Renault is targeting a fuel economy of around 22-24kmpl.

Nissan Tekton: July 9 Unveil

Nissan Tekton Hybrid

Nissan will officially reveal its highly anticipated Hyryder fighter the Tekton on July 9, 2026. It will share the platform, the RGMP with the new Duster. However, the Nissan Tekton features a vastly different, premium design inspired by Nissan’s flagship global SUV - the Nissan Patrol. The Tekton will launch with 1.0L and 1.3L turbo-petrol options, closely followed by the same 1.8-litre strong-hybrid engine seen in the Duster. It is expected to boast a twin-screen Panoramic layout (10.1-inch infotainment + 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster), ventilated front seats, a panoramic and LEVEL 2 ADAS.
