The rising demand for Utility Vehicles including SUVs and MPVs are on rise, which is evident from the high sales of 7-seater MPVs in India. A wide range of new multi utility vehicles or MUVs will be launched in the country in the next couple of years. Here is a list of upcoming new MPVs from Kia, Maruti Suzuki and MG Motor in India in 2025-26.
The Korean automaker, Kia has officially announced to launch an all-new Recreational Vehicle with an electric powertrain in India in 2025. It will be based on the Carens MPV, which will also receive a mid-life facelift. The Kia EV has already been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads.
The new model will share its platform, body shell and interior bits with the Carens facelift. However, Kia will add EV-specific design elements such as new blanked-off grille, new aero-optimized alloys and updated bumpers. The styling elements will be inspired from bigger Kia EVs including the EV9. It will share the battery pack and electric motor with the recently launched Hyundai Creta EV.
Scheduled to be launched in the second half of 2025, the Kia Carens facelift will come with design changes and an upgraded interior. The MPV will have revised front fascia, featuring a new grille with new inserts, revised LED headlamps with connected light bar, and revamped bumper. It is expected to get redesigned tail-lights, and new alloy wheels.
The cabin will have new colour theme, new upholstery, a 360-degree camera and the segment-first ADAS suite. It is likely to get a new dual-screen setup, which we have already seen on the new Sonet and Seltos. The new Carens will continue to be offered with the choice of a 1.5L NA petrol, a 1.5L turbo diesel and a 1.5L turbo petrol.
Maruti Suzuki is developing an all-new electric MPV, codenamed YMC, which will go on sale in 2026. Toyota will also introduce its own version of the new Maruti MPV. It will be based on the e-HEARTECT platform that also underpins the Suzuki e Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser EV. Adding to it, the company is also planning to introduce Suzuki Spacia-based hybrid MPV in the country. The EV is expected to be offered with 49kWh and 61kWh battery packs with expected range of over 400km and 500km, respectively.
MG Motor India had showcased the M9 MPV at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. It will be launched in the country by April 2025. The new MG M9 electric MPV will be the second product that will be sold through MG's new 'Select' premium retail network. Expected to be priced around Rs 65 lakh, the new MPV will be available for bookings in March.
In terms of proportions, the new MG M9 is 5.2 meters in length, and 1.8 meters in height. The new model will come as an alternative to the likes of the Toyota Vellfire and Kia Carnival. It gets a large glass display that houses instrument cluster, infotainment unit and a front passenger display. It comes with touch-based climate controls on dashboard, 6 and 7-seat options, and powered rear sliding doors. It gets panoramic sunroof, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, second-row seats with ventilation and massage function, a 12-speakers sound system, 3-zone climate control, ottoman seats, and rear entertainment screens.
It is packed with a 90kWh lithium-ion battery pack paired to a single electric motor, yielding 244hp and 350Nm of torque. It is claimed to offer a certified range of up to 430km. The car supports fast charging up to 120 kW DC fast charger, which charges the battery from 30% to 80% in just 30 minutes.
