75 km pure electric range with AWD. 301 bhp plug-in hybrid powertrain. India launch unlikely for now.
Suzuki has introduced the updated Suzuki Across Plug-In Hybrid in Europe. With a claimed 75 km electric-only range and 301 bhp combined power, it stands out as a strong electrified SUV. But will this premium hybrid make its way to India through Maruti Suzuki?
As of now, there is no official confirmation.
The Suzuki Across sold in Europe is closely related to the Toyota RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid. It shares the same platform, hybrid system and overall structure under the Suzuki-Toyota partnership.
It is positioned as a mid-size SUV and is sold only with a plug-in hybrid powertrain in Europe. The model helps Suzuki meet strict emission norms while still offering petrol power and all-wheel drive.
Interestingly, the Across name is already linked to India in a different way.
Maruti Suzuki exports the India-made Maruti Suzuki Victoris to select global markets under the Suzuki Across name. In India, however, the SUV continues to be sold as the Victoris with mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid options, not the high-performance plug-in hybrid system.
This has created some confusion around the name, but the European Across PHEV is a completely different, more premium product.
The Across PHEV uses a 2.5-litre petrol engine paired with electric motors. The petrol engine produces 140 bhp and 226 Nm of torque. Combined system output is around 301 bhp.
Power is sent to all four wheels through an electric AWD system, and an e-CVT gearbox manages performance. Suzuki claims a 0–100 km/h time of 6.1 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h.
The highlight is its claimed 75 km electric-only range under WLTP testing. This allows drivers to use pure electric mode for city drives and switch to hybrid mode for longer trips.
Bringing the European-spec Suzuki Across PHEV to India would likely make it very expensive. The advanced plug-in hybrid system and possible import costs could push it into a premium price bracket.
India’s SUV market is largely price-sensitive, especially in the mid-size segment. This makes a direct launch of the 301 bhp plug-in hybrid unlikely for now.
Instead of launching a costly plug-in hybrid, Maruti Suzuki is focusing on more practical electrified options for India.
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid is expected to introduce an in-house series hybrid system aimed at high fuel efficiency.
A three-row version of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is also in the pipeline with strong-hybrid technology.
In addition, the all-electric Maruti e Vitara is scheduled for launch in early 2026.
