While Skoda will launch the Kylaq compact SUV, Hyundai has started testing the next-gen Venue. Let's talk in detail about these two upcoming sub-4 meter SUVs -
Skoda has officially announced to unveil the Kylaq sub-4 meter SUV on November 6, 2024. This compact SUV will go on sale in the country in the first quarter of 2025, most probably by March next year. It will be developed on Volkswagen Group's MQB AO IN platform that underpins the Kushaq and Slavia. This platform will be modified to accommodate a shorter wheelbase SUV.
The Skoda Kylaq will be powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 114bhp and 178Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.
The SUV is likely to share its styling cues from the Elroq electric SUV. The SUV will also feature brand's new identity, featuring 'SKODA' lettering instead of arrow logo. It will be the first model under the company's India 2.5 plan. Production of the new Kylaq is expected to begin in October, as Skoda aims to produce around 50,000 to 70,000 units annually.
Hyundai has started testing the second generation Venue, which is expected to make a global debut next year. The sub-compact SUV is likely to share its styling cues from the new Creta and Alcazar. It will have new front fascia with newly designed grille, LED daytime running lamps and headlamp cluster. The rear also has newly styled tailgate with connected LED taillamps that resemble that of the Hyundai Creta.
Similarly, the cabin will have similarities with the new Creta SUV. It will have two screens, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and a 10.25-inch digital instrument console. The infotainment unit will be compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SUV is likely to be offered with a panoramic sunroof.
The SUV is also likely to get Level 2 ADAS system along with hill assist, vehicle stability management, electronic stability control, TP<MS and brake assist system. The next-gen Venue is most likely to retain its engine options including a 1.2-litre, NA petrol, a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre, turbo diesel.
