The Mercedes-Benz E-Class Long-Wheelbase (LWB) is set to become a new benchmark in luxury sedans with its launch slated for next week. The 2024 model brings more space, cutting-edge technology and some unique features that make it stand out. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming E-Class LWB.
Reports suggest that production has already begun at Mercedes-Benz's plant in Chakan, Maharashtra. Notably, it is the only right-hand drive (RHD) E-Class LWB in the world, making it a special product for the domestic market.
- Sleek Headlights: The front of the car features high-performance LED headlights as standard, with the option to upgrade to Digital Light technology, which offers enhanced visibility during night driving. The daytime running lights are shaped like a subtle eyebrow, adding a distinctive touch.
- New Grille Design: The grille now comes in two styles — progressive or classic, depending on the equipment level. One unique option is an illuminated grille that gives the front fascia a more futuristic look, drawing inspiration from Mercedes' electric EQ range.
- Rear Design: The back of the car is highlighted by two-part LED taillights, which feature a new contour and a sleek design. The lights integrate the Mercedes star within them, continuing the brand's tradition of subtle elegance.
- Recline: The rear seats offer an impressive 36-degree recline, something you won’t find in the BMW 5 Series LWB.
- Sunroof: A fixed dual-pane sunroof enhances the feeling of space and luxury.
- Materials: The cabin features premium materials like open-pore wood trim that give it a sophisticated, high-end feel.
- Infotainment: It comes with a 14.4-inch central touchscreen infotainment system with the latest MBUX version, sitting next to a 12.3-inch co-driver display that allows passengers to control entertainment or other features independently.
- Selfie Camera: A built-in selfie and video camera allows you to join meetings via apps like Zoom or take pictures on the go.
- E 200: Comes with a 2-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with 204bhp and 23bhp mild hybrid electric assist.
- E 220d: Next up, a 2-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 197bhp with the same 23bhp electric boost.
Unfortunately, the extremely popular E350d has been dropped. However, for international markets, Mercedes offers a 750 Nm plug-in diesel hybrid version.
- Autonomous Driving: The car includes an autonomous lane change system, which allows it to switch lanes on highways with minimal input from the driver.
- Attention Assist: This system can detect when the driver is distracted or drowsy and take action, including bringing the car to a stop if needed.
- Airbags: Apart from the usual driver and passenger airbags, the car includes a knee airbag and a central airbag between the front seats for additional safety. The total number of airbags is to be confirmed upon launch.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB is set to be the most expensive E-Class ever, though the exact price will be revealed at its official launch on October 9.
