Volvo India has confirmed the facelifted XC90 will go on sale on March 4, 2025. The updated model features design changes in alignment with its electrified sibling, the EX90, and still maintains its proportions. It's the second substantial update since the XC90 was launched in 2014. The new XC90 won't feature a diesel variant but mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options. It will also be equipped with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The new model is expected to cost around Rs. 1.05 crore (ex-showroom) and will compete with SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, Audi Q7, and Lexus RX.
The 2025 Volvo XC90 will look like its electric sibling, the Volvo EX90, because of its design modifications. While the overall shape of the SUV is not altered, the restyling comes with a new grille and chromed elements arranged in an oblique pattern. The headlights are more streamlined, with modern Thor's-hammer-shaped LED DRLs. The front bumper has also been redesigned slightly to give the SUV a new look.
Profile-wise, the XC90 will continue to feature traditional pull-type door handles, body-colored outside mirrors, and silver roof rails. The new vehicle will boast a pair of dual-tone alloy wheels, which will be about 21 inches like in the current car. The rear of the XC90 gets a fresh bumper that incorporates a horizontal chrome strip and new LED rear tail lamps.
In terms of interior design, the new XC90 will be minimalist in nature but with some embellishments. The SUV will most likely retain its 7-seater configuration, and may come equipped with a 3-spoke steering wheel. The dual-tone colour scheme and leatherette finish are expected to stay, but sustainable materials might be employed to make the interior more eco-friendly.
The 2025 XC90 will be well-equipped. These will include a 12.3-inch digital driver's display, an 11.2-inch standalone touchscreen, and a 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system. It could also include a heads-up display, ventilated and massaging seats, a panoramic sunroof, and four-zone automatic air conditioning with second and third-row vents.
Safety has never worried Volvo, and the upcoming XC90 will be no exception. The new vehicle will have multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera, hill start and hill descent, and an electronic parking brake. The SUV will also have a Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) package, which consists of lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. Park assist sensors are one of the other safety features that may be featured.
The 2025 Volvo XC90 shall be offered in two engine options. The first is a 2-litre mild-hybrid turbo-petrol engine that offers 246.58 bhp of power and 360 Nm of torque. The second one is a more efficient 2-litre turbo-petrol motor with plug-in hybrid technology, giving 448.78 bhp of power and 709 Nm of torque. Both the motors are combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission and have an all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup for smooth and efficient performance in various driving conditions.
