Volvo Cars is preparing to bring the refreshed version of its flagship SUV, the XC90, to the Indian market before early March 2025. This variant of the vehicle will feature design refreshes, technology updates, and hybrid powertrains for its global rollout that was launched in September 2024. The facelift is the second major upgrade for the XC90's second generation, with Volvo introducing this car to its lineup in 2014.
Let's now get into every detail of what we can look forward to seeing in the new 2025 Volvo XC90 Facelift.
Exterior changes dominate the 2025 XC90 changes. The front fascia of the SUV is all new and in line with Volvo's latest models, including the all-electric EX90. Grille itself now has a new pattern of diagonal lines; moreover, an active grille has replaced the former panel design. The headlights have been revised as well, with new Thor's Hammer LED daytime running lights (DRLs), which remain the hallmark of Volvo's design language.
Along with these changes, the front bumper has been sleeker, contributing to a more refined appearance. Chrome detailing has been minimized, keeping the look clean and modern. The side profile of the XC90 is basically the same, but the SUV now has a new alloy wheel design that brings a bit more style to its stance. A wider gap at the rear splits up the tail-lights, distinguishing the rear in a more stylish manner while yet maintaining the characteristic vertical light of the brand.
The cabin inside the 2025 XC90 facelift offers a lot more modern experience, with so much comfort enhanced by significant improvements. The most shocking changes occur in the form of the large 11.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, protruding out from the dashboard instead of embedded within, thus giving the whole thing a much more modern look. That's a larger screen, and it's an even better part in terms of complete functionality of the infotainment system that supports Volvo's latest software as well as is easy to get access to the navigation, media, and the access to the car settings.
Except for the premium feel imparted to the interior, the dashboard has been refurbished. One feature is the extended center console with space that provides storage, offering an organized cabin for personal items. This radio lowers the wireless smartphone charger behind the central tunnel, as far from the general storage area. Such ergonomic adjustments make the cabin feel even friendlier and easier to navigate through.
Variations in the seating option remain available on the XC90. It can accommodate 5, 6, or 7 passengers. The 6- and 7-seater versions are expected to be present in the Indian market, but that would mean a much roomier and more comfortable ride for bigger families. The interior of the XC90 continues with high-grade materials. As for the most upmarket comforts, there is a Bowers & Wilkins high-fidelity audio system available as an option only on the roof of the XC90.
The powertrain choices for the 2025 Volvo XC90 will be based on a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This engine can be paired with either a 48V mild-hybrid system or a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) setup. The mild-hybrid versions come in the SUV, like B5 and B6 variants. These power between 247 and 295 bhp. However, the PHEV variant is called the T8 with 306 bhp. This PHEV battery pack size is 18.8kWh, with which it should be able to go 70 km on pure electric power alone. Volvo promises a combined range of about 800 km.
For the Indian market, it’s likely that the XC90 will launch with the mild-hybrid variants only, though the PHEV version may also be available in the future. The car will come with an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive as standard, making it a capable performer on various terrains.
As would be expected from Volvo, the 2025 XC90 facelift will carry a full suite of modern safety features. It comes with Volvo's Pilot Assist, an advanced system that houses adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking, to name a few. It further comes with an over-the-air update-enabled infotainment system; the car can have its software updated from a remote position and remain updated with features and improvements that make the system remain updated.
The XC90 facelift retains multiple driver assistance technologies, such as blind-spot monitoring, 360-degree cameras, parking assist, and more. This lifts the safety and convenience quotient of the SUV and is the exact reason why so many families would choose this particular car as the best safe, technology-laden car for themselves.
Volvo XC90 is priced at Rs. 1.01 crore, ex-showroom in India, and the facelift model will raise prices slightly. But at the launch stage, it cannot be precisely priced, but it is going to be nearly the same. The XC90 facelift will compete with other luxury SUVs like Audi Q7, BMW X7, and Mercedes-Benz GLS.
