German automaker BMW has unveiled a new Touring Coupe at the ongoing 2023 Villa d’Este concours d’elegance. While the brand says it is a one-off, it may be put into a limited-run production if it receives a positive reaction at the event. We take a closer look.
BMW says the new concept is inspired by the automaker’s 1940s 328 Touring Coupe. It also has a resemblance to the newer Z3 and Z4 Coupe with its shooting brake design.
The Touring Concept has an eye-catching but also classic design. It is finished in a bespoke shade BMW calls Sparkling Lario and is embedded with blue glass flakes. Up front, it ditches BMW’s current oversized kidney grille for a sleek horizontal unit while the headlights are similar to the Z4 Roadster.
Moving to the side, you will notice the long nose, followed by the short cabin with the windowline featuring the brand’s trademark ‘Hofmeister’ link. There are new alloy wheels too, 20-inch at the front and 21-inch towards the rear with a turbine design. The concept’s breadvan-esque rear end gets a sharply raked windscreen, bootlid spoiler, slim LED tail lights and twin exhausts.

The Concept Touring’s interior remains unchanged from the Z4. The Roadster’s cabin is an older design to the current design, which means it still features elements like a proper gear lever, a rotary controller for the iDrive infotainment system, and lots of physical buttons.
What BMW has changed in the Concept is the upholstery and materials used. The angled dashboard is covered in prime Poltrona Frau Italian leather. It uses two different tones of leather to divide the dashboard into two zones that BMW says aid concentration while driving. Its boot floor and surrounding area are also covered in Italian leather. To further complement the vehicle, it also gets hand-made luggage to match the boot.
The automaker has not revealed any details about the powertrain of the Touring Concept. However, it did confirm that there is an inline-six under the bonnet. Currently, the only straight-six BMW makes is offered in the likes of the X3 M40i, Z4 M40i, and the 3 Series M40i. In its highest tune, the motor delivers 370 bhp with 500 Nm of peak torque and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
