French automaker Citroen has just unveiled the New eC3, the pure-electric version of the recently launched C3 hatchback. The brand has stated that it will also export the eC3 from India, giving the vehicle a boost in sales, which has been sub-par at best. We take a look at the upcoming EV.
The exterior of the New Citroen eC3 stays largely similar to its ICE-powered counterpart except for the new charging port located on the front fender and the omission of the tailpipe. Inside, Citroen’s electric hatchback gets an updated centre console with a new drive controller replacing the gear lever.
Other than that, all exterior panels, interior trim, and mechanicals remain the same which are already made in India. This has been mainly done in order to keep input costs down. Talking about the feature list, it too stays similar to its petrol sibling. You get here is a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, a four-speaker audio setup, a digital instrument cluster, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, and more. You can also use the MyCitroen Connect app to check your EV’s charge level, vehicle location, as well as navigation to the closest charging station.
The eC3 uses a 20.9 kWh battery pack sourced from Chinese firm Svolt currently as Citroen is planning to localize its production later. It powers a single front-axle mounted motor that pumps out 57 bhp with 143 Nm of peak torque. The automaker claims an ARAI-certified range of 320 kms on a full charge. The electric vehicle gets a 3.3 kW AC charger onboard that also supports CCS2 fast charging. There is a DC fast charger thrown into the package, that can juicing up from 10 to 80 percent in just 57 minutes.
The company is also offering a warranty of up to 7 years or 1,40,000 kms on the battery pack and 5 years or 1,00,000 kms on the electric motor. The EV itself gets a warranty of 3 years or 1,25,000 kms.
Citroen India has not announced the prices of this model, expect eC3 to have a starting price of around Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings for the vehicle will start from January 22nd, while the EV will reach showrooms from next month. Upon launch, it will compete with the recently launched Tata Tiago .EV in its segment.
In this article, we talk about the key features of the new Tata Altroz facelift that are missing in the top-selling Maruti Suzuki Baleno hatchback.
