Honda & Renault’s First Hybrid SUVs Coming in 2026 – Details

Honda ZR-V Hybrid launching in July with 184bhp powertrain. Renault Duster hybrid arriving by Diwali with segment-leading 160bhp output.

Honda Cars India and Renault India are all geared up to launch their first hybrid SUVs in the coming months. The Honda ZR-V will serve as the brand’s new flagship SUV in India and is slated to arrive in July 2026. The Renault Duster hybrid, on the other hand, will hit showrooms around the Diwali festive season. Here’re a look at the key details of these two upcoming hybrid SUVs.

Honda ZR-V

Pre-bookings for the Honda ZR-V hybrid SUV are already underway, with customer deliveries set to begin in July. Similar to the global-spec version, the India-bound model features a 2.0L, four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a dual-motor strong hybrid system. This setup delivers a cumulative power of 184bhp and 315Nm of torque. It comes with an e-CVT gearbox delivering power to the front wheels. Honda’s hybrid SUV accelerates 0 to 100kmph in 8 seconds and offers a top speed of 172kmpl. It promises a fuel efficiency of 22.79kmpl.

The Honda ZR-V will be imported into India as a CBU (completely built unit) and is estimated to be priced between Rs 40 lakh – Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will take on the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line, Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.

Renault Duster Hybrid

The new Renault Duster will go hybrid by this year’s Diwali season. It will be positioned against the hybrid versions of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder. As far as pricing is concerned, the Duster hybrid is expected to command a premium of around Rs 1-2 lakh premium over its ICE counterpart.

Renault has confirmed that the Duster hybrid features a 1.8L, four-cylinder petrol engine mated with two electric motors – one working as a generator and producing 20bhp and another powering the wheels with 49bhp. It also gets a 1.4kWh battery pack. This hybrid configuration delivers a combined power of 160bhp and 172Nm of torque. The Renault Duster will be the most powerful hybrid SUV in its segment.
