2026 Maruti Grand Vitara facelift to receive subtle design and feature upgrades. Hyundai Bayon-based SUV to debut with a new hybrid-ready turbo petrol engine.
Considering the growing demand for larger and feature-rich midsize SUVs in India, most carmakers are strengthening their presence in the segment with multiple new models. India’s top two largest passenger vehicle (PV) makers, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor India are ready to introduce new midsize SUVs by the end of this year.
The new 2026 Maruti Grand Vitara facelift will receive mild design and feature upgrades, while retaining the existing powertrain options. Meanwhile, Hyundai will launch an all-new midsize SUV based on the global-spec Bayon, which will be sold alongside the Creta. Here’s a quick look at what these upcoming midsize SUVs are expected to offer.

The new Maruti Grand Vitara facelift is expected to be launched around the 2026 Diwali festive season. The SUV lineup is likely to witness subtle design changes, focused at the front end. Similar to the current model, the updated one will measure 4,345mm in length, 1,795mm in width and 1,645m in height with a wheelbase of 2,600mm.
Under the hood, the 2026 Maruti Grand Vitara facelift will continue with feature the existing 103bhp, 1.5L K15C petrol mild hybrid and 115bhp, 1.5L Atkinson cycle strong hybrid powertrains. Transmission choices might also remain unchanged including a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic and an eCVT (available exclusively with the strong hybrid powertrain).
Hyundai Motor India has officially confirmed a new midsize slated to arrive in the second quarter of FY2027 (between July-September, 2026). Codenamed Bc4i, the upcoming model is likely to be based on the Hyundai Bayon sold in European markets.
According to reports, the India-spec Hyundai Bayon could debut the brand’s all-new 1.2L turbo petrol engine, which is expected to be more compact and fuel efficient than the Creta’s 1.5L turbo petrol engine. Additionally, Hyundai’s new 1.2L turbo petrol engine will support hybrid technology, and might power several of Hyundai’s brand’s several compact and midsize SUVs in both domestic and global markets.
In the company’s portfolio, the new Hyundai Bayon SUV will sit between the Venue and Creta. Given its positioning, the SUV is expected to be equipped with features such as a dual-screen setup, connected car features, automatic climate control, wireless smartphone connectivity, rear AC vents, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera and more.
