Maruti Suzuki and Toyota to Launch New 3-Row Electric MPVs

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are building new 3-row electric MPVs. Expect long-range, premium features, and 5- or 7-seater options. Launch starts late 2026, with Toyota following a year later.

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are working together on a brand-new 3-row electric Multi-Purpose Vehicle. Maruti’s version, codenamed YMC, is expected to hit the market between late 2026 and early 2027. The new MPVs follow the same strategy as their electric SUVs, the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella. These vehicles aim to provide spacious, zero-emission family transport for private buyers.

Built on a Dedicated Electric Platform

Both MPVs will use the 27PL (Heartect-e) skateboard platform, a dedicated architecture for electric vehicles. The flat floor layout allows for more cabin space and flexible seating arrangements, making the MPVs ideal for families.

Size, Seating, and Range

The new MPVs will measure around 4.5 metres in length, making them larger than the current Ertiga. Buyers can choose between 5-seater and 7-seater configurations with standard rows or premium captain seats. Powered by battery packs of 49 kWh and 61 kWh, the vehicles are expected to offer a range of up to 543 km on a single charge.

Premium Features for Comfort and Safety

These MPVs will focus on luxury and convenience, offering a panoramic glass roof, a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, and ventilated seats.

Made in India, Ready for the World

Production will take place at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat facility, serving both Indian buyers and global export markets.

Timeline and Brand Differences

The Maruti Suzuki YMC is already undergoing testing on public roads, with a launch expected by late 2026 or early 2027. Toyota will release its version about a year later, using the same mechanicals and battery packs but with a unique exterior design featuring its signature “hammerhead” styling.

Competition in the Premium EV MPV Segment

These new e-MPVs will compete with premium models like the BYD eMax 7, Kia Carens Clavis EV, and VinFast’s upcoming family EVs. With their blend of space, features, and long-range electric power, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are set to redefine family EVs in India.
