Mahindra & Mahindra has officially announced the upcoming launch of the Thar 5-door model. It is expected to arrive in the market by mid-2024. The Thar 5-door will be manufactured on a specialised production line, making it distinctive from the Thar 3-door variant. This strategic decision is intended to optimize production efficiency and handle waiting periods better.
Some of the standout features in the 5-door version will include the addition of a single-pane sunroof and a larger touchscreen infotainment system.
In contrast to the 3-Door variant, which boasts a 7-inch touchscreen, the upcoming Thar 5-Door is anticipated to feature a large 10-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster. The music system will be compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, with enhanced graphics.
Additionally, for the convenience of rear passengers, floor-mounted rear AC vents will be provided.
The 2024 Mahindra Thar 5-door will retain the same powertrain options as its 3-door counterpart. These options would include a 2.0-litre petrol mill and a 2.2-litre diesel unit. The petrol engine in its current state is capable of delivering a maximum power output of 130 bhp along with 300 Nm of peak torque. The diesel on the other hand generates 150 bhp and 320 Nm torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual gearbox and an automatic transmission.
Much-awaited Mahindra Thar 5-Door is expected to be priced at Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). In addition, the SUV positions itself as a direct competitor to the forthcoming 5-door Force Gurkha. Furthermore, it serves as a larger alternative to the Maruti Jimny.
